Anti-Chinese bigotry seems to get worse each year. The leading contender for the GOP presidential nomination mocks people with Chinese names. Biden’s Washington is increasingly hysterical about the China threat.
Some people push back by claiming that they object to the Chinese government, not the Chinese people. If only that were so. Here’s Bloomberg:
The American Civil Liberties Union sued Florida over a law championed by Governor Ron DeSantis that bars most Chinese citizens from buying homes in the state.
The law, set to take effect July 1, violates the equal protection and due process guarantees under the Constitution by prohibiting landownership based on “race, ethnicity, color, alienage, and national origin,” according to the suit filed Monday in federal court in Tallahassee.
The ACLU sued on behalf of four Chinese citizens, claiming the law “stigmatizes them and their communities, and casts a cloud of suspicion over anyone of Chinese descent who seeks to buy property in Florida.”
More than a dozen state legislatures have introduced similar bills, with many targeting people from China, the ACLU said.
Hardly a day goes by without a news story describing how DeSantis wants to ban one thing or another. One day he bans corporations from setting their Covid policies. Another day he restricts the freedom of teachers to talk about gender issues. The next day he’s restricting the speech rights of Disney. Then an abortion ban. Then he tries to prevent Gainesville from deregulating to allow more homebuilding. He’s against legalizing pot.
Why are Republicans so opposed to freedom?

Your question at the end may have been rhetorical, but it seems Republicans know they can’t achieve their political goals if they respect the democratic process. Their extremist views are obviously pretty unpopular. Hence, the turn to authoritarianism.

The Biden Family, however doltish they may be, knows not to bite the hand that’s fed them all these years. Maybe the fact that there has been 30+years of corruption with this relationship will help prevent a conflict, I am hopeful at least.

Again, the writer shows his ignorance, and his proclivity to watch movies instead of read a book; first, he tells us RFJ jr is a “antivaxxer”, which of course isn’t true at all.
Then, he tells us 10s of millions of Chinese citizens — not American citizens — should come to the United States immediately to help us compete with Huawei (because we have bad engineers), a company that is known to deliver spyware in their applications. Indeed, the intelligence community wrote a thirty page report outlining CCP state sponsored hacking; Huawei is not an independent company; it’s owned and operated by the CCP. The Chinese also prohibit, as almost every country does, foreigners buying land, particularly land critical to national security. Try buying land in China, and they will also refuse. Buy Sumner, and the globalist crowd, want us to play by a different set of rules. He preaches the WTO, yet nobody violates the WTO more than China. He tells us he loves freedom and free trade, yet he miraculously calls for “trade agreements”. Folks, trade agreements are not free trade. Free trade doesn’t require an agreement. Don’t let them fool you. He supports big subsidies, and big economic zones, via “trade agreements” which centralize power in industry and government.
And then, if that wasn’t odd enough, he tells us that Chinese citizens — not Chinese Americans — should be permitted to own farm land in Florida, and across the nation, which is a national security risk. It’s not racism; it’s common sense; you don’t give a totalitarian regime control over your food supply. It’s not smart, but then again Sumner is not known to be very smart; that’s why his books sits on the shelves unread, and his publications count in the single digits.
It’s hard to find a publication, despite thirty years of academic work; you almost wonder what he was doing for thirty years.
Not to mention, his extremist views on American citizens being “terrorists”, his bizarre support for a steroid using, sweat pant wearing, Ukrainian comedian whose sole claim to fame is his inability to negotiate a peace deal and uphold the Minsk agreement, is a bit concerning.
This is a guy who quotes and trusts John Bolton, a war criminal. It’s a guy who tells us to “pack the courts” because, presumably, he isn’t getting his way politically.
This is the same guy who said in 2016 that we should end the electoral college because his preferred candidate didn’t win the election.
This is a guy who threw a fit because abortion laws were being decentralized.
If you want to talk about radicalism and extremism, and threats to the republic, then look no further than Scott Sumner.

The democrats are the party of Jim Crow; it’s the party of slavery; it’s the party of civil rights filibustering. It’s now the party of anti-white, CRT, neo-marxism.
I was unaware that republicans went on a rampage destroying private property, attacking journalists, murdering people, and setting up autonomous zones in 2020.
I presume it was also the conservative states that were using CCP style lockdowns, and using government coercion to force people to choose between a vaccination and their job?
I presume under this logic it’s also the conservatives that want to pack the supreme court, because they failed to win an election.
Is it the conservatives who go around yelling at Catholics and Christians’ and Mormons, because they have different values? Is it conservatives who threaten journalists with machetes?
Is it the conservatives that want to live on a credit card, and then force future generations to pay for their good time?
Is it the conservatives who are calling for the end of private property, and for the centralization of health care and banking?
And as Sara said, it’s not a good idea to let foreigners buy up farm land; this is a strategy by the CCP to gain access to food supplies in foreign countries. And the United States is not the only country worried about China buying up property. The CCP is on a mission, and there is a global pattern evident to everyone. They are doing the same thing in Brazil and Italy.
The CCP wants the farmland, because once they control the farm, they can ship the food back to China (subsidize it for their home market) and reduce the supply (raise the prices) domestically. This forces the domestic market abroad to pay for the Chinese food supply.
And it should go without saying that if we cannot purchase land in China, then I see no reason why Chinese should be allowed to purchase our land. It’s tit for tat, and that’s the way it ought to be. If you want free trade, then it must be equal and fair across the board.
This also means that U.S. companies should be allowed to operate in China without being forced to hand over intellectual property, which we all know is immediately copied by CCP officials.
But until China stops its organ harvesting and imprisoning of Uighurs we shouldn’t do business with them at all. It doesn’t make sense to enrich a regime that forces a Muslim population into prison camps, and harvests the organs of Falun gong. We have all seen the South Korean video of a woman at a Chinese hospital being offered an organ on demand for 10,000, which is impossible unless you are harvesting it. And since the Falun gong are consistently imprisoned, and consistently turn up missing, it follows that the organs are probably coming from that group.

Nobody likes them, because they are rude and obnoxious and totalitarian. My favorite video is of a PH security officer slapping a Chinese man around the airport after he refused to show his passport. It’s just great stuff.

Wanted to expand on the OSHA comment. There were (at least) three big lies OSHA pushed on the vaccine mandate in their court briefings:
1- Covid vaccines stop transmission. Full stop. (completely false)
2- Natural immunity has no efficacy.
3- Unvaccinated are dangerous incubators of deadly new variants.
This is the big issue of our time.
Sumner clearly believes that corporate freedom is the bottom line.
But we are dealing with comprehensive coercion and/or collusion between corporations and government, the classic definition of fascism.
Don’t forget the Twitter files revealed that the FBI/CIA had massive numbers of agents planted at social media companies. The FBI has unrestricted access to DIRECT MESSAGES from anyone at Twitter.
Back in Covidstan, we now know the “virology” experts had discussions where some said “Virus looks engineered” and others said “Wuhah Lab is the ‘Wild West'” (meaning BSL-2 saftey with BSL-4 viruses).
Mere days later, Fauci commissioned the “Proximal Origins” report which “proved” natural origins. That report became the gold standard for authoritative censorship of anyone who disagreed with Fauci. No wonder Fauci famously said “I AM THE SCIENCE”. Anyone who disagreed with the Fauci was immediately deplatformed by the FBI/CIA controlled social media companies. Even if they were Canadian, Australian, or Taiwanese, they were under the FBI jackboot. How is this freedom?

Disney can say whatever it wants. What it’s not going to be able to do is run its own feudalistic government. I remember you said previously how NIMBYism is turning into a patchwork of feudalistic system, and the same thing is true with Disney, which used its feudal government powers to prohibit non-Disney landowners from operating large ranges of businesses non-Disney property:

Florida can do whatever they wish with special districts. What they cannot do is single out a single corporation and punish them solely because they don’t like their speech. That violates the first amendment.
As an analogy, I oppose farm subsidies. But I’d oppose a Biden administration effort to remove farm subsidies from farmers with right wing views.

The anti-liberty party in the United States seems to be the uniparty. The Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton, won the election in a landslide over George P. Bush, with over 68% of the votes, which I think lends itself to the growing anti-establishment populism in the United States.
However, after Paxton won the election a long standing Bush family friend and ally within the Texas house of representatives submitted impeachment papers against him. It seems in America that whenever a populist speaks out, whether left or right, i.e, Trump, Kennedy Paxton and so forth, there is a concerted effort to silence them.
Does anyone else see these trends locally and nationwide?
Establishment media, MNC’s, and career politicians all seem to be in the same bed with one another; if you look at the headlines of all the major papers they are almost identical. If you google Robert F. Kennedy Jr., you will see article after article, from a variety of establishment outlets, who oddly have the same titles, the same content and buzzwords. (i.e, “Antivaxxer, Kennedy outcast, Not a real Kennedy, radical, dangerous, antiscience”) Almost all articles include these buzzwords, and are oddly published within minutes of each other. It could be the conspiracy theorist within me, but the oddness of it all might warrant some deeper investigation.
In other news, the LGTBQIA group from L.A. threatened to bomb Target stores in Utah until the CEO of Target restocked the Trans Satan paraphernalia (for kids) which the store removed due to the locals objecting.
Does anyone think bombing stores and stocking shelves with Satan clothes for kids is normal behavior?
From the outside looking in, there does seem to be a lot of degenerates in America, and most of them are on the left. We get a lot of tourists in Tokyo, and I hate to generalize but the worst group by far are the Chinese. However, a close second are those from blue states in America. Similar to Chinese, they are rude, obnoxious, and use crude language. The most polite and kind Americans are always from the south or the Midwest.
Many of us in Japan hope the right wins the cultural war.

For those who want to learn more about Sumner’s idea of “freedom”, look no further than the EU he admires.
Thierry Breton, European Commissioner, threatened Twitter a few days ago with this totalitarian tweet:

This was in reference to Twitter leaving the voluntary disinformation committee. (another committee, with the goal of “protecting you from those big bad misinformation peddlers”….all for your benefit of course.)
In short, Europe has now established new legislation that will force Twitter to be legally required to ‘fight disinformation’ beginning August 25th, under the draconian “Digital Services Act” which, if violated, include a provision that outlines fines of up to 6% of a company’s annual revenue.
And who, you ask, determines what is disinformation? Ah, yes, you probably guessed already. It’s the apparatchiks, the gangsters of all gangsters, but don’t fret my brethren because it’s all for your safety and security. They love you.
Then we have the Biden Administration establishing the “disinformation governance board” which was later dismantled, not because of outcries from the ALCU, which actually supported this attack on the first amendment, but because they knew the Supreme Court would strike it down.
But lo and behold, the Sumner/Biden/Globalist thugs found their loophole. They now are creating the “disinformation office” which they claim….somewhat comically…will only be used to combat information warfare perpetrated by those big bad Russians; and as long as it’s under the director of national intelligence and doesn’t target American citizens, it’s constitutional. Meanwhile, leaks at DHS show a diagram that tells it’s officers to watch Christians closely, because Christianity, apparently, can now lead to Nazism.
But anyways, if you look closely at the provisions of the new disinformation office, you’ll see that one of its objectives is to “monitor and control public opinion and behaviors.”
I will say it again: “monitor and control public opinion and behaviors”. All for your safety and security of course. Sumner loves you.
In summary, this is Sumner’s view of freedom. In other words, if you don’t agree with him you are a terrorist. If you are a Christian, you are a terrorist. If you are a rotten-no good farmer or blue collar worker, you should do what the elites and the intellectuals tell you to do because you are beneath them. If you don’t, you are a terrorist. Don’t ask questions, just obey your overlords.
If you refuse to allow the CCP to buy up your farmland, you are a horrible racist. If you want to protect borders, and thus your wages, culture and traditions, and ensure harmony through shared values, then you are a Nazi nationalist. Forget patriotism and common sense policies designed around creating community harmony. That moderate word has been struck down. You are either a Nationalist or open borders. You cannot be in the middle somewhere. That’s impossible under the Sumner globalist regime. You are either with us or against us. Refuse reeducation and assimilation, then you will be terminated.
