The clown show continues

Trump:  No quid pro quo!  No quid pro quo!

Chief of Staff Mulvaney:  Yes, there was quid pro quo.

I suppose when you are caught red-handed, and one staff member after another confirms the whistleblower’s account, then this is pretty much all that’s left:

“I have news for everybody: Get over it. There’s going to be political influence in foreign policy. That is going to happen. Elections have consequences,” Mulvaney said.

When ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl pointed out that withholding aid to Ukraine until an investigation into the DNC server was launched was the very definition of a quid pro quo, Mulvaney responded, “We do that all the time with foreign policy.”

Yeah, you also lie all the time.

PS.  A grieving UK family visits the White House and Trump thinks to himself, “How can I use this for my political advantage”, and then humiliates them.

PPS.  The administration just announced that the G-7 meeting would be held at a Trump resort.  I guess he’s trying to cash in while still in office.

The Trump Doral golf resort was also the site at which a violent video that depicted Mr Trump shooting and stabbing his political opponents was reportedly shown to a group of the president’s supporters.

I’m sure they all laughed uproariously at all the fake carnage.  After all, these are people who find Trump’s “jokes” to be funny.  I think I knew some of them, back when I was in the 8th grade.

    Scott,

You might enjoy George Will’s take on this, if you haven’t seen it already.

The episode with the family from the UK tops Jerry Springer.

From the article about the UK family who’s son was killed:
“Seiger said that national security advisor Robert C. O’Brien “snarled” at him and said Sacoolas would “never” return to Britain.”

Is there even an argument for not returning Sacoolas to the UK? I’m ashamed of this country.

How can you do a ‘clown show’ post without mentioning Trump’s letter to Erdogan? That’s possibly the clowniest thing a US president has ever done.

The US operates at once the most closed and the most open political market in the developed democratic world.

The most closed because you effectively have a legislated two Party system. The most open because there are no barriers to entering as individual candidates. Hence Bernie almost won the Democratic primary, even though he was only a “Democrat” so he could run for President and The Donald did win even though he was only a “Republican” so he could run for President.

And so here we are. And the show might be on the road for a few more years yet, if the economy holds up.

Also, Parliamentary systems work better. In the words of the Knoxville Journal in 1896: “Great Britain is a republic with a hereditary president, while the United States is a monarchy with an elective king.”

msgkings. Yes. There’s so much that it’s hard to keep up. After I wrote the post, Perry resigned and administration officials said they didn’t know what Mulvaney was talking about.

    LOL.

Another aspect that’s funny is that Giuliani was more than happy to take Michael Cohen’s role as Trump’s fixer, especially so soon after went to prison. And now it seems likely this former federal prosecutor will go to prison too.

Harding, Even Sean Hannity has thrown in the towel on this one. When Hannity doesn’t buy the White House line, you know you are in trouble.

Scott, how is the investigation into a DNC server a problem at all? Trump very carefully avoided linking any money with Biden investigation, so not sure what you want to prove here.
