GOP congressmen voted to abolish democracy in America out of fear that Republicans would murder their families

At least I think that’s what Republican Congressman Peter Meijer is saying in this Reason magazine interview:

And then one of the saddest things is I had colleagues who, when it came time to recognize reality and vote to certify Arizona and Pennsylvania in the Electoral College, they knew in their heart of hearts that they should’ve voted to certify, but some had legitimate concerns about the safety of their families. They felt that that vote would put their families in danger.

Really? You heard that?

Yeah.

Wow. That’s pretty striking.

Please let me know if I misunderstood his point. If I’m wrong, please tell me exactly what Meijer is suggesting.

Back in 2016, when I did multiple posts (here and here) warning that America was becoming a banana republic, many of my long time commenters said the idea was ridiculous. So what do I know?

What was that quote, oh that’s right:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every politician, when he went out during the day to make a law, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?”

They are worried BLM and ANTIFA mobsters, burning down cities with democrat support would kill their families.

Isn’t it amazing how trump supporters are “domestic terrorists”, but BLM and ANTIFA can shoot people, spit in people’s faces, and burn down their property and be called “peaceful”.

Even Japan knows that Trump is a great President.

Sumner and his CCP communists are in full force.

We can only hope for the insurrection act to be invoked at this point, to fend off the commies.

Notice how he still cannot say the beautiful name Jimmy Lai, or say that Taiwan and HK are independent of China. Do you know why?

Because he’s paid by the CCP! And his masters won’t like it.

    You are correct.

Silencing speech is a tactic used by the corrupt to silence their opposition.

Politicians colluding with industry to destroy competitors is also a strong armed tactic. Xi would be proud of the democrats.

And you are very addicted to word “banana republic”. However, Cambodia doesn’t grow many bananas and they are corrupt. Uzbekistan doesn’t grow bananas, and they are corrupt too. Afghanistan is corrupt, and doesn’t grow any bananas.

Perhaps we can just call the USA for what it is: a very corrupt country.

You guys are such small players in the market. Let me help you understand something that you clearly cannot see.

    1. The USD is way overvalued, and the days of the USA being the reserve currency are coming to an end. This will destroy the value of the dollar and bring the USA to its knees.

    2. To protect themselves from robust blockchain and quantum computing startups, and the inevitable economic collapse, the tech industry is colluding and working with democrats to monopolize industry and politics. This gives them the ability to crush or assimilate the competition without fear of retribution. And it permits one party control making it a win/win for both. The CCP employs the same tactics.

    3. Sumner things this will make you better off. It won’t. You will be worse off than ever before. And the war to achieve totalitarianism will kill many Americans. It will be bloodier than the civil war. Again, Sumner likes this. But it’s not good!

Start moving your assets into gold, or switch to a southeast Asian currency. Singapore, Yen, KRW and others should be okay.

To clarify 2, “merging” would be the better word. A merge between industry and a political party, ensures survival for both. This is what you are seeing now. And it’s something the communists have always sought as it gives them total control.

I think you have a reasonable interpretation of what Meijer said. I think he is wrong though, and looking for sympathy for his colleagues in a disingenuous way. Its pretty pathetic considering that these guys expect and place soldiers to go into actual risk fairly often.

    Jerry,

have you read the whole interview? Meijer is an actual veteran, so this kind of remarks coming from this kind of person, the threats may have well been serious.

‘You’ ‘think’ that you have ‘democracy’?

    ‘This’ is U.S. ‘democracy’?

“Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens
Martin Gilens and Benjamin I. Page
Each of four theoretical traditions in the study of American politics—which can be characterized as theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy, Economic-Elite Domination, and two types of interest-group pluralism, Majoritarian Pluralism and Biased Pluralism—offers different predictions about which sets of actors have how much influence over public policy: average citizens; economic elites; and organized interest groups, mass-based or business-oriented. A great deal of empirical research speaks to the policy influence of one or another set of actors, but until recently it has not been possible to test these contrasting theoretical predictions against each other within a single statistical model. We report on an effort to do so, using a unique data set that includes measures of the key variables for 1,779 policy issues. Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence. The results provide substantial support for theories of Economic-Elite Domination and for theories of Biased Pluralism, but not for theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy or Majoritarian Pluralism. “

Did anyone check the flight logs to see if their was a Sumner that went to Pedophile Island with Epstein?

We know Hunter and Joe were there.
    John Roberts was also there.

It sure seems like {xu, sarah, henry} is just one person. Which means the person has thought it beneficial to choose an Asian-sounding name, a female Western name, and a male Western name, to most credibly sell allegiance to Trump. I don’t think that made me take it significantly more seriously but you know.

They’ve also chose imitiate different personalities (the sarah one was meant to be more gentle) but then kind of slipped to the point that it all sounded like the same person ranting. Plus the timing is pretty obvious. If I were going to do this, I would have done a better job making it look believable.

The whole thing where they have one person agreeing with the other has a schizophrenic element.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Republicna party has been taken over by neo-fascists. This is a very serious thing and a huge threat to democracy but I do not see how this validates the claims made repeatedly on this blog that America has become a ‘banana republic’. I have been somewhat heartened by the overall response to the failed putsch last week and think there is a good chance we may have won at least the current battle against fascism. It seems that vast majority still favor democracy over autocratic rule.

I do find the ‘banana republic’ thing quite annoying. The USA clearly does not meet the wikipedia definition so I guess Scott has just redefined it to mean whatever he wants it to mean, which is fine but not especially helpful in the current climate.

seems more likely that the GOP members of Congress were worried that if they didnt vote to approve decertification of the states electors, that they or their families might get killed or injured. if it was that that wanted them to certify the votes then they wouldnt have voted the way they did. if what the GOP member of Congress is correct in what he reported others saying. be hard to know if that was incorrect or not, since they probably only said some thing, with almost no others around. i suppose we could ask different countries after Trump leaves office what they thought of him as president. course i dont know that they could print them either

I don’t know Scott- I think I am misunderstanding your post or your comment or something here.

We got Meijer here saying something like his Republican colleagues knew they were wrong and only raised objections because they were scared for their families? And supposedly they would not have done that if they didn’t fear for their lives?

I’m just saying I don’t believe that story- if that is indeed his story. I’m far from a Republican party member but even I don’t think Republicans are that scared, stupid, crazy, I don’t know pick a word.

Speech at the Alamo tomorrow, in the Great State of Texas, where American Legends Sam Bowie and Davy Crockett died for Freedom & Liberty.

Sumner is scared of freedom and liberty. He promotes the “Princeton school” over the ” Chicago school” — i.e, theft and centralization over laissez-faire and individualism.

    The CCP owns him.

He’s coming for your wallets and your freedom and your property, but we’re going to stop him in his tracks

Scott “Benedict Arnold” Sumner is a traitor.

The White House withdrew Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf’s nomination to be permanent Homeland Security chief last week. Could this be related to his urging Trump to condemn violent protest in support of the self-coup attempt? Today, still in his acting capacity Wolf announced increased security in Washington D.C. would begin January 13 (instead of January 19) in anticipation of the inauguration. Now it appears that Wolf’s tenure will come to a sudden end at 11:59 PM tonight (January 11). If this leads to a cancellation of security for the days leading to the inauguration you will know the coup is still in progress.

I agree with Jerry. He is obviously lying. It doesn’t fit into his narrative that there are still many hardcore Trump supporters. His narrative is full of moderates, Trump skeptics, and novices like him who want a fresh start. It doesn’t fit into this story that there are still Trump supporters, so he inflates the part about them being forced against their will. A real politician with quite some talents.

    Scott,

You run out of arguments and then you rely on personal attacks. And all because one does not agree with your idiosyncratic points of view.

On a side note: Peter Meijer nowhere says that party members threaten his colleagues. The most extreme Trump supporters have been seen in the Capitol, these are often people outside of established structures.

Christian, So they think that the people who will endanger their families for not supporting Trump are themselves not Trump supporters?
