Case closed?

I’ve been arguing that Covid 19 probably originated in an animal market. Recent evidence suggests that this is indeed the most likely source:

But the Chinese government vehemently denies this claim:

A Chinese health expert has hit back at a Canadian researcher’s claims of strong evidence that Covid-19 originated from a wholesale food market in central China, saying the suggestions do not stand up to scrutiny.

Liang Wannian, the head of a Chinese government expert panel, said on Saturday that it was unscientific to conclude that some early cases of people living close to the market was proof that it was the origin of the community transmission.

Many commenters at this website have agreed with the Chinese government that animal markets are not the source of Covid. Ironically, those same commenters sometimes accuse me of being a lackey of the CCP!

Here’s another irony. While I don’t believe Covid-19 came from a lab, the recent pandemic suggests that gain-of-function research is just as dangerous as its critics claim, and needs to be strictly regulated. As policymakers, we should act as if the lab leak theories are true.

The issue is so complicated that many of the “mood affiliation” people out there don’t even know what side of the debate they are suppose to take. Hurry, someone tell those confused people what to believe in order to most effectively own the CCP!

She might be right. But not all academics agree with Dr. Angela Rasmussen. There are number of virologists who do not believe that the virus formed in nature, including two Nobel prize winners.

And there is no reason for American citizens to be sending their taxpayer money to Chinese labs, because another disgusting octogenarian, with terrible breath, along with a few corrupt bio fascists, want to sidestep U.S. regulation to achieve their end.

We’ve seen this same process played out in Ukraine. The Ukraine laboratories served the same purpose, permitting pharmaceuticals and researches to bypass domestic gain of function regulation.

Anon, Yes, that’s why I used the question mark. The case is not closed.

    Sara, You said:

The US ban was repealed in 2017.

The ‘wet market’ narrative is another fake news msm narrative.

    “The China government vehemently denies”

They VEHEMENTLY deny? Oh well then obviously the smart thing to do is trust the CCP mass murdering communist psychopaths.

“Ironically, those same commenters sometimes accuse me of being a lackey of the CCP!”

    Why not both?

It is genetically impossible for sars-cov-2 to have originated ‘naturally’, because of all the gain of function characteristic features of the virus contradict how viruses naturally exist and mutate.

The PRRA (furin cleavage) site in the virus with TWELVE nucleotide base pairs is NOWHERE confirmed in nature, recombination or evolution. Natural mutations occur only ONE base pair at a time.

The virus even has a HIV glycoprotein 120 insert, also nowhere found in naturally occurring corona viruses. And that is precisely what Zhengi published as having successfully done in a lab!

The RBD (regional binding domain) also exists nowhere in nature.

To believe the fake news ‘wet market’ story would be akin to believing evolution that takes a million years can occur spontaneously in one instance. It betrays all science.

“…re-engineered HKU4 spike, aiming to build its capacity to mediate viral entry into human cells.”

“To this end, we introduced two single mutations…mutations in these motifs in coronavirus spikes have demonstrated dramatic effects on viral entry into human cells.”

    – Shi Zhengli, Director of the Centre for Emergence of Infectious Disease and Biosafety at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a Biosafety Level Four Biocontainment Lab.

Zhengli also discovered that the naturally occurring spike proteins from horseshoe bat corona viruses was UNABLE to bind to the ACE2 receptors in human cells, which is likely she she was writing so proudly in having successfully altered coronaviruses to make it infectious in humans.

Covid is a bioweapon. All the evidence is open source.

@George – “To believe the fake news ‘wet market’ story would be akin to believing evolution that takes a million years can occur spontaneously in one instance. It betrays all science.”

Your insistence that evolution happens at a timeline of ‘millions of years’ is just wrong.

You can see the evolution of this particular disease to see how the virus has evolved in just a couple of years. You can see evidence of zoonotic viruses crossing over into humans many, many times over (the much less than millions of years of) recorded history.

    Chris:

“You can see the evolution of this particular disease”

No we can’t because there isn’t such an ‘evolution’ with this virus. A million years was a rhetorical flourish but if you do research TWELVE nucleotide base pairs plus HIV GP 120 inserts would take hundreds or thousands of years. The point is that it is not possible for the virus structure to have evolved in nature, there are way too many inserts all at the same time.

It is not true that with THIS virus anyone is ‘seeing’ the step by step addition of nucleotide additions as does occur when viruses naturally mutate/evolve.

I like the idea that this pandemic may bring better scrutiny to gain of function research, but it’s probably set back transparency in the handling of natural zoonotic virus outbreaks.
This paper, https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-1370392/v1, from the Chinese CDC, for example, concludes with the following:

the market might have acted as an amplifier due to the high number of visitors every day, causing many initially identified infection clusters in the early stage of the outbreak as indicated in the Report of WHO-convened global study of origins of SARS-CoV-2. In addition, live SARS-CoV-2 viruses also existed in the environmental samples. However, no SARS-CoV-2 was detected in the animal samples from the market. Definitely, more work involving international coordination is needed to investigate the real origins of SARS-CoV-2, especially considering the SARS-CoV-2 positive results of samples collected in 2019 in retrospective studies of different countries.

In other words, the CCP is peddling the theory that COVID was brought to the Huanan market directly or indirectly by foreigners although somehow none of those foreign countries experienced outbreaks. I can only assume that cover up and misdirect will be the CCP playbook for the next pandemic.

Carl, Yes, the CCP is not to be trusted.
