Make no little plans, they have no magic to stir men’s blood

I’m an NBA fan and so is Matt Yglesias.  Last week I linked to an NBA study that showed teams in low income tax states have higher winning percentages.  I then tried to get cute by suggesting that Matt should advocate the abolition of state income taxes in the DC metro area, hoping he would see it as a way of helping to improve the hapless Wizards.

But tax cuts are how conservatives think.  Liberals like more grandiose plans, preferably with other people’s money.  Here’s Matt:

Alternatively, if the PBOC insists on only purchasing dollar-denominated investment assets, they could buy all 30 NBA teams for something like $11 billion. This would obviously be a much less liquid investment than China’s typical moves. But it’s a pretty trivial amount of money compared to the total, and a large sovereign like China can afford some illiquid investments. What’s more, by purchasing the NBA and ending the lockout, China could obtain some much-needed soft power.

They would prevent a lockout by transferring funds from Chinese peasant farmers to NBA superstars.

I think Matt was joking, in which case I am too.  If not, well then I’m not either.

    “grandiose” is the WRONG word.

    this takes a phrase…

    “want to control their betters”

    Now it makes perfect sense.

Also, “preferably” is the wrong word.

    “necessarily” fixes it.

The ONLY smart liberal I’ve ever met – Austan Goolsbee. And like Clinton, he’s not really a liberal.
